Toshiya Sugino receives a competitive start-up grant

In August 2016, the German Center for Cardiovascular Research (DZHK) announced that Dr. Toshiya Sugino received one of the competitive DZHK PostDoc Start-up Grants. Dr. Sugino is one of only five awardees for this distinguished research funding. He will receive up to 60,000.00 EUR for a maximum of one year to promote his work on the regulation of FOXO transcription factors by the ubiquitin system.

The start-up funding is part of the DZHK Excellence Programme. It aims to encourage early scientific independence and is intended to grant talented young scientists financial support for a self-contained research project that will enable them to compete for additional external research funding (e.g. DFG, EU, BMBF).

All applications were assessed and scored by an expert review panel, consisting of the Board of Directors and all partner site speakers of the DZHK. The five highest ranked proposals were recommended for funding. The assessment of the funding application by the panel members was based on the publication performance, experience of the applicant, subject and objectives of the project, innovativeness, and the project plan.
